Tropical Blast Smoothie Bowl

Acai bowls have been getting all the attention lately. As cool as those little berries are, they’re pretty expensive because they’re considered exotic and a “superfood”. Ooooh, how original.

Listen, guys. You can turn anything into a smoothie bowl. Hell, you can take a slice of pizza, blend it up, and dump it into any receptacle and call that a smoothie bowl. It doesn’t have to be acai. It doesn’t have to have a “superfood” or whatever.

This recipe is super easy, quick, and cheap. It’s also loaded with all kinds of antioxidants. Best part? The carbs in this beauty will light a fire under your ass first thing in the morning.

FEATURED INGREDIENT: PINEAPPLE
Aside from their endearing, funky design, pineapples offer a vast array of health benefits. You only need a cup of this sweet stuff to get 105% of your daily recommended value of vitamin C. Talk about a healthy immune system. Not to mention the manganese, copper, and B vitamins that come with it as well.

Buying frozen or pre-cut pineapple is cool, but hey, if you can find pineapples for cheap at your store, don’t hesitate to grab one and cube it up yourself. They can last up to a week in the fridge, and a few months in the freezer. DO NOT BUY THEM WHEN THEY’RE GREEN. Go for pineapples that have a golden color to them, that’s when they’re ripe and sweet!
NOTES:
This recipe works beautifully if you have a high-powered blender like a Vitamin or Blendtec. However, if you don’t own either one, no sweat! You can make it happen with any blender. Just be patient and maybe blend one ingredient and add more as you go.

INGREDIENTS:
1 frozen banana, broken up
1 cup frozen pineapple, cubed
1 mango, cubed
3 ice cubes
1/2 cup almond milk
DIRECTIONS:
Blend, blend, blend that sucker up! If you have a Vitamix and it has the “Frozen Desserts” feature, this is the perfect opportunity to use that.
Top with your favorite textured toppings: Granola, coconut shreds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, berries, kiwi, almonds, and anything in between.
Serve IMMEDIATELY. If it’s really hot out you might be spooning a fruity soup in a matter of minutes, but hey, you can pull it off.
